Tournament Invitational Tournament Rules

  1. The tournament is sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA)and as such is subject to OLA Rules and Regulations. Before the first game for each team, Tournament Officials will verify OLA Players and Coaches cards. Note: Participation WILL NOT be permitted of any player or bench staff without an OLA card.

  2. GAME DURATION: All games in the tournament will consist of three (3) 15-minute periods. All games will be running time except for the last 2 minutes of the third period which will be stop time, providing there is a goal differential of 5 or fewer goals. There will be a 3-minute warm- up before all games and a 2-minute rest between periods.

  3. TIME-OUTS: Each team will be allowed 1 x 30 second time-out per game.

  4. START TIME: Teams must be prepared to start their games 15 minutes prior to the scheduled

    start time.

  5. GAME POINTS AWARDED: Points will be awarded as follows; 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie,

    0 points for a loss. There will be no overtime games in the “round-robin” portion of the


  6. TOURNAMENT FORMAT: After round robin play, teams will be ranked by points. Semi Finals -

    the 1st and 4th place teams and 2nd and 3rd place teams will play. The winners will advance to the



    1. If 2 or more teams are tied after round robin play, placement will be decided by the winner of Head to Head play.

    2. If the teams are still tied, the Goal Average formula will be used to determine who will move on. Goals For/Goals For + Goals Against

  8. SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS: Sudden victory periods of 5-minutes duration will be used in semi and final games. The first overtime period will begin immediately after the conclusion of the 3rd period with NO REST PERIOD. This process will continue until a winner is declared.

  9. JERSEY RULE: In the event of a color conflict between 2 teams, the designated HOME team shall be responsible for changing jerseys. The referee’s decision on a potential “conflict” will determine if a change is required.

10. FIGHTING: Any player/bench staff receiving a major penalty for fighting will be automatically ejected from the game and suspended for the balance of the tournament. There will be no exceptions. FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
